In the 70's, Flinders
University (here in South
Australia) built an electric
car. They then expanded on
that experience to build
another (converted) car and
two two Bedford vans which
were used as demos and
prototypes for EVD (Electric
Vehicle Developments). These
used 6 original type motors
stacked in line to form one
unit.
EVD built 3 Bedford vans which
went to ETSA, SA Gas and the
Department of Mines and
Energy. EVD also converted a
Toyota HiAce which went to PWD
in Victoria. These used the
same PCB rotors, but were
fitted to a much shorter
purpose built unit.
The original car however
languished, somewhat into
obscurity, without batteries
and motor, and of course - no
longer running, until a home
was found more recently with a
member of the SA Branch of the
Australian Electric Vehicle
Association (AEVA)
But there’s a problem...
AEVA want to see this vehicle
return to running condition
and, as an association with
limited financial resources,
we need fundraising support to
purchase vital components for
this vehicle, that have either
perished, broken, been removed
or basically rotted away over
the years.
